Traveling in wind and rain increases the chance of an accident, which is why taking proper precautions is incredibly important. If you must, drive, do so safely. Here are a few helpful tips for driving in the rain from us here at Quebedeaux Mitsubishi.
- Slow Down – Driving a little slower than normal is a necessity in the rain, as it gives you more time to stop. Slowing down will also help prevent your car from hydroplaning and potentially causing you to lose control of the vehicle altogether.
- Stay Aware – Strong storms tend to bring high winds which can lead to disaster on the road. Larger vehicles are prone to drifting in and out of their lanes as a result of high winds more so than smaller cars. Make sure to keep your eyes open and leave plenty of space between you and other vehicles. Doing so will give you more time to react and come to a stop in the event of an accident or emergency.
- Lights – Driving with your lights not only helps your own visibility but it helps other cars see you amid the rain and gray background as well. Make sure your headlights work properly and change out any burnt bulbs. Some states will give you a ticket for driving in the rain without your headlights on.
